Open Concept Kitchen Remodel in Redmond with Warm Contrast and Clean Lines
For this Redmond home, our design-build team transformed a dated, closed-off kitchen into a bright open concept space built for cooking and gathering. By removing a load-bearing wall and extending the footprint, we connected the kitchen to the surrounding living areas, then layered crisp white shaker cabinetry, a warm taupe island, hand-finished blue glass tile, and a dramatic beamed ceiling for a kitchen that feels both timeless and full of character.
A Kitchen Built for Function and Gathering
A successful open concept kitchen has to balance everyday function with finish detail that holds up to daily life. This transformation focused on improving flow, maximizing storage, and layering warm and cool tones for a space that feels welcoming without losing its clean, tailored edge.
- Two-Tone Custom Cabinetry: White shaker perimeter cabinets keep the room light and airy, while the contrasting taupe island anchors the center of the kitchen and adds depth to the palette.
- Handcrafted Tile & Quartz Surfaces: A blue glass subway tile backsplash brings in color and texture, paired with durable quartz countertops that brighten the space and stand up to heavy use.
- Integrated Ceiling-Mount Ventilation: A flush, ceiling-recessed range hood vents the island cooktop while keeping sightlines completely open, framed by the home’s stained wood beam.
- Warm Architectural Details: The dark coffered beam ceiling, oil-rubbed bronze hardware, matte black fixtures, and select red oak flooring tie the room together with warmth and contrast.

Balanced Two-Tone Design:
Choosing where warm and cool tones meet is what makes a two-tone kitchen feel intentional rather than busy. The white perimeter cabinetry reflects light from the surrounding windows, while the taupe island grounds the room and complements the red oak floors and stained ceiling beam.
Smart, Concealed Storage:
Function drives the layout. Custom pull-out spice racks flank the cooktop, hidden pull-out bins keep trash and recycling out of sight, and full-height pantry cabinetry maximizes everyday storage without crowding the open floor plan.
The Design-Build Advantage:
From the structural permitting and load-bearing wall removal through cabinetry, tile, and final fixture installation, our team manages the entire process under one roof. That single-source oversight is how an open concept kitchen of this scope comes together with consistent fit, finish, and quality throughout.
An Open Concept Kitchen Built for Lasting Value
A well-designed open concept kitchen is the most-used and highest-impact space in any home. This completed Redmond project shows how smart structural changes, durable materials, and skilled craftsmanship turn a dated, closed-off kitchen into a bright, connected space that improves daily living and adds real, lasting value to the property.
Client Reviews
Structural Transformation Analysis: Before the Remodel
Prior to our structural work, the original kitchen suffered from a compartmentalized layout that cut the cooking area off from the rest of the main level. A dated dropped ceiling, dividing walls, and tired finishes limited both function and natural light throughout the space.
Spatial Isolation:
Enclosed walls and a half-wall divider separated the kitchen from the adjoining living and dining rooms, creating artificial boundaries that broke up the home’s flow and made the space feel closed off.
Dropped Ceiling & Dated Finishes:
A low, tiled drop ceiling along with worn cabinetry and laminate counters dated the room and absorbed light rather than reflecting it across the main level.
Limited Light & Sightlines:
Bulky upper cabinets and the dividing wall blocked sightlines to the surrounding windows and green space, keeping daylight boxed into a single corner of the kitchen.
